about

WILL WE EVER LEARN
Lyrics: Copyright Andy Jones (2015)

As a hundred and thirty are placed in the ground
There’s a sinister arrogance we seem to have found
As our eminent leaders – out of anger and fear –
Send our soldiers away to make the threat disappear
“Just think about Paris”, the hypocrites say
As though terror like this didn’t happen each day,
Just in places afar that aren’t our home address
And now suddenly we’re here to save the oppressed

Will we ever learn?

But as time passes on, generations go by,
Still decisions are made in the blink of an eye
And they say "this is different", almost like they had spent
Just a moment pretending they weren't so hell-bent
On extracting revenge with our allies, our friends,
And ensuring the commerce of war never ends
Where we kill all the ones that we ought to arrest,
But that doesn’t deter us ‘cause we’re doing our best

Will we ever learn?

When mistakes of the fathers revisit their sons
Will we tell them that we’re the unfortunate ones
Who defended their freedoms, defended their rights
While we trampled on those who weren’t able to fight?
We’ve enabled dictators and sold them their arms
While we've bombed people's houses, their schools and their farms
Will our children forgive all the mess that we've made
And our victims recover from the price that they've paid?

Or will we finally learn from mistakes made before
And discover that there is no value to war?
We must find the humanity so tragically lost
While we still have a chance to diminish the cost

Will we ever learn?
